Ignacio Rodó always wanted to be a troubadour. Unfortunately, he was born several centuries too late, so he had to make do with being a filmmaker instead.

The spaniard likes telling stories, creativity, irony, subtext, minimalism and humor on set, as well as lowercase letters.

Since directing his first short film in 2007, he has experimented with all of the possible ways to tell a story, which has led him to direct all kinds of formats, screens, and even stages. The only thing he has never tried his hand at, is acting. For the sake of the industry and the world, he has promised never to try.

​

His work has won more than 150 awards and has been selected for over 1,000 international film festivals (including several Oscar qualifying), where his style has been called experimentally commercial. A statement that confuses and excites him at the same time.
 

His short film Tuck me in (2014) is an internet hit, having been viewed more than 30 million times, and gathering more than 30 awards and 250 film festival selections. The rights for his short films El abogado (2016) and Deep down (2019) have been acquired by HBO USA. At least two of his shorts have been plagiarized by the Indian filmmaking community. When asked, Ignacio describes the latter as the proudest achievement of his career so far.

He has worked as a producer in commercials and as a line producer in international feature films. Even though it pays the bills, if he was pushed he’d tell you he thinks of production as simply a hobby.

When he realized giving awards is as rewarding as getting them, he started serving as a jury member for a number of different festivals, including Filminute in 2015; Crominute, Underexposed and Meters in 2016; Free Speech in 2020; and Short of the Year in both 2018 and 2022.

​

In 2024 he established Els Cineminuts in collaboration with the Terrassa Unesco City of Film, a festival dedicated exclusively to one-minute short films. Not only is it a fantastic narrative challenge but the quick format also feels like a breath of fresh air to him in the slow-moving film industry.

Last and certainly least, he has a hard time writing bios, but he gathered his courage to write this one.
